General
How do you ensure confidentiality?
The law protects the confidentiality of communications between a client and psychologist. As part of treatment, I keep records of therapy and testing sessions. The files which I maintain on site (in a locked cabinet) are kept for 5 years after treatment has completed and are then destroyed. I will not disclose any information without a client’s permission with the following exceptions: in the case of suspected child abuse/dependent adult or elder abuse, a therapist is required to report this to the authorities immediately; in the case where the client has been determined to be a danger to self or others, the therapist is required to notify the police or appropriate authorities.
What are the rates and do you accept insurance?
Rates are available upon request. Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Payment in cash, cheque, or e-transfer is expected at time of service.
What if I am unable to make my appointment or if I need to cancel?
If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, and you have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, you will be charged the full cost of the missed session.
What are your qualifications and affiliations?
I have a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from St. John’s University in New York. I am licensed to practice as a psychologist and neuropsychologist by the Ordre des Psychologues du Quebec (OPQ #10405-05), with the College of Psychologists of New Brunswick (CPNB #712), and with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP #5488). In conjunction with my private practice, I am also the co-associate director of the Alzheimer’s Risk Assessment Clinic (ARAC) at the Jewish General Hospital (Department of Neurology).
Psychotherapy FAQs
What issues do you treat in therapy?
I work with adults and older adults on anxiety, depression, trauma, relational challenges, stress-related concerns, life transitions, and issues related to hormonal or metabolic changes. My work includes both symptom relief and strengthening long-term resilience.
How does your therapeutic approach work?
Therapy is collaborative and tailored to your goals. I work from a CBT foundation, informed by neuroscience, and integrate relational and acceptance-based strategies as needed. Together we build skills in emotional regulation, cognitive flexibility, stress management, and self-understanding.
How long does therapy usually last?
Duration varies based on individual goals and concerns. Some clients engage in focused work over a few months, while others choose longer-term support. We review progress regularly, so the pace and structure feel right for you.
What should I expect in the first session?
In the first session, we will discuss your presenting concerns, relevant history, and what you hope to achieve in therapy. Together, we will begin outlining a plan tailored to your needs and identifying initial goals. We will also take time to ensure that working together feels like a good fit. If we agree that another provider would better meet your needs, I will gladly offer referrals to trusted colleagues.
Can therapy help with life changes like menopause, diabetes, or aging?
Yes — I tailor therapy to the specific context of each person’s experience. My specialized training in menopause and diabetes, along with neuropsychological expertise with aging adults, helps support emotional and cognitive wellbeing across these life challenges.
Assessment FAQs
What is the purpose of a neuropsychological assessment?
A neuropsychological assessment evaluates thinking skills — such as memory, attention, language, and problem-solving — to clarify patterns of strengths and weaknesses, understand how thinking affects daily functioning, and guide recommendations for treatment, support, or planning.
How do I know if someone should have an assessment?
An assessment may be helpful when there are concerns about memory change, attention difficulties, cognitive decline, effects of medical conditions, or changes in emotional functioning that impact daily life. It can also be valuable when treatment planning requires a clearer understanding of brain–behavior relationships.
What can I expect during the assessment process?
Assessment typically includes a clinical interview, standardized cognitive testing, and a feedback session to review results. You will receive a written report with findings and practical recommendations tailored to your goals.
How long does testing take, and is preparation required?
Testing length varies depending on the referral questions being asked. Most evaluations occur over one or more sessions. No special preparation is needed — just rest and regular routines so your performance reflects your usual functioning.
Will the results help with treatment or planning?
Yes — the goal of assessment is not only diagnostic clarity but actionable information. The report can guide therapy, medical care, accommodations, and everyday strategies to support cognitive and emotional functioning.
